Beach and school

During these two days I have met even more young people staying in Guadeloupe! I finally met my friend's friend who is in exchange here. You can check her blog from here!
Unfortunately it is only in Finnish.

On wednesday I was windsurfing! It was super fun! I will definitely try that again later! I went to surfing with the swiss girls and we had to hottest teacher!

I booked trip to Petit Terre, it is island part of Guadeloupe, there is nature reserve if I have understood correctly. I am going to take the trip with two people from german and with two swiss girls.
If I would have stayed here in St. Anne and took the language school longer, I probably would speak german and not french! :D

Today I was hanging out with Elisa my friend's friend from Finland. We went to the beach close by St. Anne and after we went to the evening market. The evening market was full of people selling fresh fruits and vegetables and food! I ate way too much! I tasted accrass, which are kind a like falafel. Lentils with lot of spices mixed and fried. Elisa helped to pick nice mango, which I will eat tomorrow!

Other awesome stuff what I have tasted so far are Ti Punch, Guave, Fresh pineapple juice, Guyana sorbet and Coco sorbet, and this weird looking fruit, which I cannot remember the name of.

For my happy surprise I got message from a Finnish woman who is working in Marie Galante if I want to rent a car with her and go to see Les Souffrière with her during some weekend. I love the idea!
But I feel like everyone I meet here are leaving... :( Have to make new friends all the time. Well when I start working my workmates probably will be here the whole time, hopefully! :D

Tomorrow I am probably going to Le Gosier with Elisa to celebrate their last evening in Guadeloupe.

1. Picture is Ti Punch, there is a lot of rum, hint of lime and sugar.
2. Picture local woman selling coco sorbet at the St. Anne evening market
3. Picture the weird looking fruit. :D

And I finally got my Gwada number from Digicel!

The first day in the language school

It was nice surprise that the is many people taking the french course in the same school as I. Mainly Swiss girls. It was awesome to have someone to talk to, who is kind a in a same situation as I am!

Now I can actually have company when I do stuff! Jeij! At least for week :D

Many of the Swiss girls speak pretty good french so there is only 3 other girls who are in my level, which is lower. In the lessons we talk a lot in french which is good, that is exactly what I need to do now! We practised some grammar, imparfait and passe compose, and prepositions useful stuff. I have forgot some of the small rules what comes with them.

After the school we went to buy some food and ate at the beach. Tomorrow some surfing maybe.... we'll see.

I got my tan lines! Jeij! Only after 3 times being at the beach! Record :D

One person is maybe going to visite the island close to Guadeloupe on saturday, I try to find out more and maybe join! I was thinking of going to visite some island during the weekend anyway. :)

I taste my first planteur, there is different kind a rums and three different juices mixed. It was goooooood!

I finally got my stove working and I am cooking chicken with plantain! Nam!

Unfortunately many of the swiss girls are leaving soon.. I think few of them are staying but not for long time either...

But I enjoy their company as long as I can!

Rain

Its been raining for the whole night and morning... Like real rain not just few drops. I was feeling like I cannot get out for the whole day! But finally at 10 am the rain stopped... yeah I waked up 6 am.... the dam church bell..

Today I tried to find out how to get to Marie Galante, Les Saintes, Désirade or Petit Terre. The place was hard to find and it was closed, not surprising. I will go there later.

It was nice to notice that people are actually really helpful here. When I was looking for the "harbour" this old rasta guy came to help me and literally took me infront of the place where they sell the tickets for the boats.

But I have to say it gets bit tiering when guys are offering to be my boyfriend with in every corner.... that kind a "friendliness" is bit distressing.

I don't know how to use my gas stove/oven... I tried to light it but I have no idea where I can but the gas on..... I really need to ask someone to help me with that... I already bought chicken and plantain to cook..

This is were I live!

My dinner in...

It was beach day after all!

Tomorrow the language course starts! Cant wait!

Arriving

On the flight from Montreal to Pointe à Pitre I shared my row with guy from Guadeloupe who tried to have conversation with me, which wasn't so successful. I just didn't understand him at all...

We flew over the island of Antigua and I wished I could have seen glimpse of the island but it was too cloudy..

At airport there was this person from EKIWAYS ( the company who does co-operation with Allianssi in Guadeloupe) to welcome me. She had the cutest little old car and we had to stack up my bags in the back seat of the car. She took me to St. Anne where I am staying for one week to have my language course. (which I really need)
There was the owner mother to welcome us to the flat, she gave me keys and showed me around. In the evening around 8 the owner Patrice(??) came to welcome me.

During the first day I tried to find a towel and laundrette and I did found them both with help of locals! My french is not that bad at all...

Today is the mothers day in Guadeloupe. There was a flower exhibition at the culture house.
We went to beach with Marika (EKIWAYS person) at 6 am in the morning... When she asked me if I want to join her... I am not a morning person but I went to bed at 8 pm and woked up 5 am so it was fine.
We drove outside of the St. Anne to beach of Bois-Jolan and walked through "forrest" to get to this remote beach. I thought we were going for a stroll but she was taking the walk as an exercise, so I was running after her with my huge camera. After the walk we took a dip in the sea. The water is so warm! It doesn't feel as warm as in Antigua in Mamora bay but so refreshing!

After the morning walk Marika invited me to her
 house to have breakfast.

I was wondering why the houses had two numbers. Marika explained that around 3 years ago there was no road names or house numbers but the government decided that the roads should be named and houses should have number since there have had been problems to have ambulance, fire truck and etc. to right place. So they named the roads and gave the houses NEW numbers even if they would have had already old ones...

I bought this amazing fried fish and beans and rice from the street today! Orangina is the best!

I have been trying to find out what is here in St. Anne to do in the evenings but I haven't found anything but evening market on thursday, so here I am in my flat writing this blog...

Tomorrow there is national holiday Abolition de l'esclavage. The day when slavery was abolished. So one more free day tomorrow! Beach it is!

Montreal

I flight via Montreal and stayed there for one night. It was hard to find convenient flight which wouldn't be super expensive. So spending one night in Montreal was the best option.

It was good practise before arriving to Guadeloupe to speak and listen French in Montreal since people speak English there too. :D

It was only 9 degrees celsius in Montreal when I arrived. I haven't packed enough warm clothes with me for the that kind a weather.

I stayed in Spanish block of the city in a hostel and shared my room with 4 other persons. I only met one of the people I shared my room with, but 2 of them snored loudly during the night so they were there.

The public transport from Trudeau to center is excellent! Bus goes 24/7 and the ticket is valid for 24h.

Beggining

The reason I am spending next 3 months in Guadeloupe in Caribbean is that I am doing my work experience period over there in a company called Tropik Events Communications. I am currently studying Experience and Wellness Management in Haaga-Helia University in Finland.
Here is more about that: Poets of Hospitality

Where is Guadeloupe? That is the question I have heard from almost everyone mouth.

Here is map!

How did I find the work place is the second question.
I found the work place trough Allianssi Nuorisovaihto.
